The beginning

Puzzled by quality problems in the commercial software world, Machiel returns to the University of Twente for PhD research on model-based testing (MBT).

2006

The attic room

Machiel has nearly completed his PhD, but practice beckons. With a valorisation grant and former colleague Menno on board, 'Axini' carries out its first MBT customer project, using university tooling.

End of 2007

Founding of Axini BV

Founding of Axini BV for a major asset management assignment. Developing proprietary technology for MBT on decision logic/datasets.

2009

Azartplein

First Axini employee. The attic rooms are left behind for Azartplein in Amsterdam, between the bakery and the pub. Trained a team at Achmea that models and tests pension processes.

2010

Summer of Code

The first Axini Summer of Code: a week of product innovation and fun in the Groningen countryside. SoC would become a tradition.

2011

Machiel's PhD defense

Item off the to-do list: Machiel receives his PhD. The University of Twente organizes a conference where Axini customers also speak. Swedish ITAB becomes the first foreign customer.

2012

Thesis Fair

Further development of data-driven tooling for investment systems and time/message-driven tooling for X-ray equipment. Structural graduation positions for Master students.

2014

ProRail

Won tender together with Ordina: ProRail systems that run trains are now model-based tested with Axini. From traffic control post to trackside cabinet.

2016

Eureka Award

Multi-year European research together with Philips, Siemens, Canon and TNO. Later rewarded with the Eureka Award and the ITEA Award of Excellence.

2017

10 years Axini in Mallorca

Celebration of 10 years Axini in Mallorca. Internal specialization in Finance and High-tech teams.

2018

Management expansion

More focus on 'the business' with the arrival of third director Ronald and partnering with FTE Groep in the financial sector.

2019

Axini Modeling Platform

Birth of Axini Modeling Platform during the Summer of Code hackathon; Application platform based on Model Based Software Engineering (MBSE).

2020

Actuarial Engine

Extension of Axini Modeling Platform with actuarial engine; provision for complex computational insurance logic including time travel and simulation.

2021

Thermo Fisher Scientific

Big steps in the extremely small: with Thermo Fisher Scientific and ICT Group, model-based testing of the most advanced electron microscopes.

End of 2022

New location

Axini moves to a new location in Amsterdam.
